People often ask us what the BEST cloth nappy is. Unfortunately, the answer is...there isn't one. What might be the perfect cloth nappy for one baby, may not suit a baby of a different build so ends in leaks all the time, or caregivers might prefer using a different nappy entirely.
There is no one perfect nappy, only the nappy that is perfect for YOU and to figure out what that is, you need to know what your requirements are.
How To Find The Perfect Cloth Nappy For Your Family
1. Work out what your budget is - If sticking to your budget is your biggest motivator then take a look at flats or prefolds - these will be your most cost-effective solutions. The trade off is that there is a bit more folding and fitting involved, but with time and practice it soon becomes a breeze.
2. Learn about their ease of use - If you are worried about cloth nappies being too complicated, Candies All In Two cloth nappies are your best friend! They are super easy to use and not tricky to get a good fit. For newborn nappies look at our Pebbles, they’re an All In One cloth nappy and are as close as you’re going to get to a disposable, you just have to wash it.
3. Think about drying time - if you are looking for a super quick dry, flats will be your jam! Muslin or bamboo terry, they’re both a single layer of fabric so will dry very quickly. The trade off here is that the longer drying fabrics are also those that are most absorbent, so you're less likely to run into leakage problems, particularly if you have a heavy wetter.
4. Consider their durability - if you want your nappies to get through more than a couple of kids and you plan on being a bit rough with them? Stick to cotton, our prefolds or flats don’t have any elastics or plastic components so they can be washed at higher temperatures.
Alternatively an All In Two style like our Candies and Bo Peeps are a good durable option, as the absorbent inserts can be separated from the outer cover. Then you can throw the inserts into the dryer if you need to, and the outer shells air dry quickly
